  • India: Declines in Polished Exports, Rough Imports in February 2024

    Figures released by India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and quoted by Rough & Polished show that in February, polished exports from India fell 28% year-on-year, totaling $1.707 billion. Over the April 2023 to February 2024 period, polished exports fell 27.6% year-on-year to $14.802 billion.

    Rough imports fell 6% year-on-year in February 2024, amounting to $1.589 billion. From April to February, imports of uncut diamonds dropped 18% to $12.859 billion.

    In February 2024, overall gross imports of polished diamonds rose to $130.4 million – a 70.6% increase year-on-year. From April to February, they saw a 47% growth year-on-year, reaching $1.79 billion.

    Gross exports of polished lab-grown diamonds (LGD) for February 2024 increased 3% year-on-year to $139.1 million. From April to February, polished LGD exports fell 18.5% year-on-year to $1.278 billion.
