Harmony Gold reports loss-of-life incident at Kusasalethu

Harmony Gold Mining announced today that two employees tragically lost their lives at the Kusasalethu mine following a fall of ground incident caused by a seismic event on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 in Carletonville, South Africa.
The company said that the work area has since been temporarily closed pending an internal investigation.
“Our prayers are with the deceased's families, friends and colleagues during this time of tragedy. The family members, colleagues and the relevant authorities have been informed,” Harmony Gold noted in a statement. “The safety of our employees remains our priority, and we endeavour to ensure that all safety protocols are adhered to at all times.”
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleagues. Harmony continues its focus on embedding its risk management practice to create a more engaged and proactive safety culture,” said CEO Peter Steenkamp.
