Artisanal gold output on track to surpass 2025 record – GoldBod

Wed July 15 2026

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has purchased between 50 and 54 metric tons of gold from the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector in the first half of 2026, putting the country on course to equal or exceed last year’s record production.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, said the current pace of purchases points to another strong year for Ghana’s gold industry, which remains the nation’s largest export and a critical source of foreign exchange.

He noted that reforms in the ASM sector have boosted production, curbed gold smuggling, and improved export earnings.

According to Gyamfi, Ghana’s ASM sector produced a record 104 metric tons of gold in 2025, surpassing output from the large-scale mining sector for the first time.

“We are around 50 to 54 metric tons this year in purchases. At this rate, we are likely to match or even surpass last year’s output,” he said.

The ASM sector generated nearly $11 billion in foreign exchange earnings last year, compared with about $9 billion from large-scale mining companies.

Gyamfi acknowledged that the recent decline in global gold prices has affected revenue projections.

He explained that GoldBod’s 2026 outlook was based on an average gold price of about $5,000 per ounce and weekly purchases of approximately 2.5 metric tons.
