Ukraine Has 3000 Tons of Gold: Where the Richest Deposits Are Located.

Sun Aug 10 2025

Ukraine may not be a leader in gold mining, but you know what? We have plenty of this precious metal underground! According to geologists' conclusions, our country has an impressive potential in this area — from the Carpathians to Donbas.

So, what gold deposits are located in Ukraine? Let's find out.

Gold Deposits in Ukraine

Ukraine boasts a significant gold ore potential — according to State Geological Survey estimates, the total gold reserves amount to about 3,000 tons. For example, 55 tons can be found in the Carpathians, about 400 tons in Donbas, and the main reserves are hidden on the Ukrainian Shield — approximately 2,400 tons.

From a geological perspective, the portal 'Useful Minerals of Ukraine' provides data on three provinces with the maximum potential for gold extraction:

·         The Ukrainian Shield, where six deposits have been thoroughly studied: Maіske, Klyntsyvske, Yurіivs’ke, Serhіiv’ske, Zolota Balka, and Shyroka Balka. In total, more than 620 tons of gold are confirmed in these locations.

·         The Carpathian gold-bearing province, which covers Transcarpathia. Here you can find the Muzhiiвske deposit (with reserves of about 50 tons), as well as the Berehivske deposit with potential reserves of 80–100 tons of gold, and the Saulyak deposit.

·         The Donbas gold ore province, where in addition to over 400 tons of forecasted resources, small but promising deposits have also been identified, such as Bobrykivske, along with numerous ore manifestations.

In addition to deep deposits, Ukraine has a multitude of alluvial gold deposits, as reported by the Institute of Geology.

Ukraine may not be a giant in gold mining, but our subsoil has significant reserves of this precious metal. From the Carpathians to Donbas — our country could become another 'golden' mine of the world.
