Macau’s evolution as a smart city and fintech hub saw a new development with the latest launch of GoldSmart, introducing the region’s first fully automated gold recycling machines through a pioneering partnership with Shenzhen-based Jin Ya Fu Group.

Two flagship locations currently in South Bay Commercial Center and L’Arc Hotel Macau, held grand opening ceremonies on May 20, attended by prominent figures including Ip Sio Kai and Angela Leong from the Legislative Assembly.

“By introducing automated gold recycling machines, we aim to modernize the gold trade through technology, making it more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly,“ said GoldSmart Chairman Kuan Yan-chi during his opening address.

“Our machines integrate testing, evaluation, and pricing into one fully automated process, ensuring accuracy and eliminating human error. It’s about creating fairness and clarity in every transaction.”

This innovation redefines traditional gold recycling, allowing customers to insert their gold items into a smart machine that uses high-precision sensors to analyze purity and weight against real-time international gold prices.

The system delivers a clear offer within minutes, eliminating the need for subjective human assessment.

The machines support multiple weight units, including grams, taels, and ounces, addressing practical needs across the multicultural Greater Bay Area.

“The technology could eventually allow recycling proceeds to be directly deposited into users’ bank accounts,” Kuan revealed, highlighting the potential for future integration with digital banking systems.

Of the nine machines brought to Macau, seven will be deployed for public use in high-traffic commercial zones. The entire process is video-monitored and accepts gold of all brands and styles, from personal jewelry to investment bars, ensuring accessibility and trust.

More than just recycling points, the flagship stores offer a holistic experience combining coffee shops, specialty gold jewelry sales, foreign currency exchange, and curated contemporary art displays.
