Where China gets its gold

China’s gold mines are generally found in its eastern provinces of Shandong, Henan, Fujian, and Liaoning.  While the country is one of the world’s biggest producers of gold, it has a relatively small share of global reserves. Based on USGS estimates from Jan 2024, China has 3,000 tonnes of gold reserves, which equates to 5% of the global figure of 59,000 tonnes.
