Investors target tokenised gold ETFs after price decrease
Wed Oct 08 2026
Recent decreases in gold pricing have increased investor appetites for tokenised gold ETFs, according to research from ST0x. A survey of 200 professional investors across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia found that just over three-quarters believe the recent gold price drop represents a buying opportunity. Of these, 28% described it as a “strong” opportunity, while 48% considered it “moderate.”
Among these investors, 31% plan to increase their gold holdings by 3%–4%, while 23% intend to raise allocations by 2%–3%. Another 20% have a neutral stance, maintaining their current holdings while waiting for clear signs that gold has reached a “technical price bottom” before buying more. Only 4% believe gold assets will continue declining for the foreseeable future.
Gold price expectations
Some 53% of respondents expect gold prices to undergo a moderate recovery towards the 200-day moving average by December, forecasting a price of $4,201–$4,600 per troy ounce.
Another 28% expect gold to consolidate around current levels. Only 2% anticipate a steep continuation of the current decline, taking gold below $3,800.
Nick Magliocchetti, director, S01 Issuer GmbH, said:
“Gold’s recent price decrease is being viewed by professional investors as an opportunity to reassess and increase exposure, rather than a fundamental breakdown in the precious metal’s investment case.”
Growing interest in tokenised gold ETFs
The reassessment among investors has increased interest in tokenised gold ETFs.
Among respondents planning to increase their gold holdings over the next six months:
- 23% said they would use tokenised ETFs exclusively.
- 58% are considering using tokenised ETFs alongside traditional ETFs.
Investors identified two key advantages of tokenised ETFs: 24/7 trading and near-instant settlement. These features are considered particularly useful for taking advantage of movements following the recent gold price decline.
Magliocchetti said:
“What is particularly interesting is the willingness of investors to consider tokenised securities referencing gold ETFs as a tactical vehicle for putting that capital to work. The combination of 24/7 access, near-instant settlement and the ability to deploy capital quickly could be particularly valuable when markets move sharply.
“While traditional ETFs will remain an important part of portfolios, tokenised securities referencing gold ETFs have the potential to give investors greater flexibility and precision when responding to short-term market opportunities.”
