Greater transparency, stronger trust: Building confidence through responsible disclosure
Mon Oct 05 2026
Trust in gold begins with knowing where the doré comes from, how it has been processed and how it moves through the market.
That is why the World Gold Council Board has adopted the Guidance Note on Supply Chain Transparency, a practical step to support clearer, more consistent disclosure of gold doré flows from mined sources.
The new Guidance Note reflects a simple ambition: responsible gold mining companies should be able to show, in a comparable and accessible way, the destinations to which their mined gold is shipped.
By encouraging companies to disclose the next destination of their mined gold, the guidance can help stakeholders better understand how gold moves from mine site into the legitimate market.
This matters because simple, comparable disclosure can have a cascading effect across the value chain. It gives downstream partners, investors, regulators and other stakeholders more confidence in the integrity of the market, while making it harder for opaque or irresponsible practices to hide in complexity.
To support implementation, the World Gold Council recommends that companies operating mines producing doré publish a Gold Supply Chain Transparency Report each year.
Participation will be stronger if the process is practical. With consistency and comparability in mind, the guidance includes a simple template designed for use by all gold mining companies, while recognising the need to balance transparency with legitimate security, confidentiality, legal and commercial considerations.
For stakeholders, the benefit is clear: better visibility of gold flows, more comparable disclosure and greater accountability, leading to a more trusted market for legitimate gold.
