Russia’s gold reserves fall by 43.5 tons in first half of 2026

Mon July 20 2026

Russia’s central bank reported its gold reserves decreased to 73.4 million troy ounces, or 2,282 metric tons, at the start of July. The bank disclosed the figures on Monday. The reserves fell by 1.4 million ounces, or 43.5 metric tons, since the beginning of the year. The central bank valued its gold holdings at $299 billion, according to its website.

Western sanctions continue to block Russia’s central bank from selling gold on foreign markets. Gold prices reached a record high during the first half of the year, surpassing $5,500 per ounce in January. Prices then dropped below $4,000 by late June. The spot price of gold remained above $4,000 per troy ounce on Monday.
