Karnataka Industries Minister proposes land for jewellery park

Karnataka industries minister M.B. Patil has proposed allocating land near Bengaluru’s international airport for a dedicated jewellery park, aiming to establish a hub for the gem and jewellery industry in the state. Patil made the announcement at the inauguration of IIJS Tritiya 2025, organised by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council.

"Karnataka is proud to host IIJS Tritiya 2025, showcasing India's exceptional craftsmanship and creativity in the gem and jewellery sector," said Patil, the GJEPC announced in a press release. "We remain committed to creating a supportive ecosystem and I invite the industry to explore the opportunities Karnataka offers. This strategic location, combined with Karnataka’s progressive policies and world-class infrastructure, aims to create a vibrant hub for the gem and jewellery industry."

Trade show IIJS Tritiya 2025 ran from March 21 to 24 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre. The event witnessed participation from over 15,000 retailers and 300 international buyers, offering a platform for networking and business expansion. 

GJEPC chairman Kirit Bhansali welcomed Patil's proposal at the event, stating, "IIJS Tritiya’s rapid growth reflects the industry's drive and the strong demand for innovative, high-quality jewellery. With expanding FTAs and proactive government support, we’re confident of reaching our ambitious export target of $70 billion by 2030. A dedicated jewellery park in Karnataka will further strengthen India's global standing in the sector."

Alongside exhibitions of gold, diamond, and silver jewellery, the India Gem & Jewellery Machinery Expo showcased technological advancements in jewellery manufacturing, including machinery, allied products, and packaging solutions. Aiming to blend trade, innovation, and cultural appreciation, the trade show promoted business growth and industry collaborations.

"IIJS has always been a significant platform for collaboration and innovation," said AVR Swarna Mahal Jewellery Limited's managing director A.B.S. Sanjjay at the event. "With the potential addition of a jewellery park in Karnataka, we see exciting new opportunities for jewellers, artisans, and retailers."

IIJS Tritiya 2025 also featured the 'Jewels in Motion' showcase, where exhibitors presented jewellery inspired by India’s classical dance forms under the 'Brilliant Bharat' theme. Additionally, Innov8 Talks provided insights into industry trends, with experts discussing topics ranging from market growth strategies to sustainability in jewellery production.

"Such an initiative would not only boost employment but also provide jewellers with state-of-the-art infrastructure to scale their businesses," said the Jewellers’ Association Bengaluru's president Chetan Kumar Mehta. "Karnataka has long been a crucial market for jewellery, and this move will cement its status as a key industry hub."
