Dubai Launches Silver-Bar Tokenization, Linking Physical Bullion to Digital Assets

Mon Sep 07 2026

Dubai Multi Commodities Centre hosted the launch of a silver-bar tokenization initiative on Monday, marking a new step toward connecting physical precious metals with digital-asset technology.

DMCC listed the “Silver Bar Tokenisation Launch” on its official events calendar for September 7, 2026, reflecting Dubai’s expanding use of blockchain technology across commodities and precious-metals trading.

Tokenization involves creating digital tokens representing ownership of physical silver. Subject to the project’s approved legal and technical structure, the model could facilitate trading, ownership transfers and settlement, while enabling individual silver bars to be divided into smaller digital holdings.

Such a mechanism typically requires the underlying silver bars to be held by a qualified custodian, supported by a system ensuring that the number of digital tokens matches the quantity of physical metal backing them. It also requires transparent verification of reserves and token holders’ ownership rights.

The launch comes amid growing international interest in converting ownership of metals and other physical assets into digital tokens, with the aim of reducing trading costs, accelerating settlement and providing more flexible investment instruments.

The initiative also strengthens Dubai’s position as an international centre for precious-metals trading and digital-asset development, supported by DMCC’s commercial and regulatory infrastructure for companies operating across gold, silver, diamonds and financial technology.

The published official agenda has not yet disclosed the quantity of silver covered by the project, its issuance value, or the identities of the entities responsible for custody and auditing. These details remain subject to the release of the initiative’s full technical statement.
